What are freckles?
Small, flat spots of concentrated pigment, usually scattered across the cheeks, nose and other sun-exposed areas. Freckles often darken in summer and fade a little in winter, and vary from light tan to deeper brown.
What causes freckles?
Freckles form where the skin produces extra pigment in response to UV exposure. They’re more common in fair skin and are partly genetic, which is why they often appear from childhood and become more pronounced with sun exposure.
